The NEXUS Gas Pipeline entered service today and began transporting natural gas to Ohio, Michigan and Ontario. The pipeline is a partnership between Enbridge and DTE Energy. NEXUS will help the region meet the growing demand for natural gas – providing additional access to this clean and versatile fuel for heating homes and businesses and new power generation.
“The successful execution of the NEXUS project speaks to the team’s unwavering dedication to safety, environmental compliance and landowner engagement,” said David Slater, president, DTE Midstream.
NEXUS worked for more than four years with landowners, key stakeholders, and state and federal agencies to develop a balanced approach to designing and constructing the pipeline. The 255-mile, 36 inch diameter FERC interstate pipeline is designed to carry 1.5 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas. During construction, NEXUS created almost 6,800 jobs, $650 million in wages, and will continue to generate taxes to local schools and communities along the route (per MSU study).
